Cintron: Original Review

Price: 0.70(no not a typo =D)
Size: 16oz
Active Ingredients- Taurine, Caffeine, Glucuronolactone, Pantothenic Acid, B6, B12
Calories- 220
Energy Blend(total energy ingredients)- n/a

Overall Rating: 5 of 10

Summary: As in my last review, Cintron isn’t one of the top most well known energy drinks out there, I recently had more brought to me by a friend from Massachusetts. This time, I had a few originals brought, which hadn’t been part of the stash last time.

Taste: First sip, whoa that’s strong citrus. Second sip, wow thats REALLY strong citrus. Third sip, ew this is fucking medicine. Fourth sip, did someone puke in this? I honestly for the FIRST time in my life could not finish an energy drink. This taste was just repulsive.

Taste Grade: 2

Power: I’m going to have to assume the kick was the same as the other flavors of cintron. The ingredients are the same so it makes sense, right?

Power Grade: 8

Pricing: I’m leaving this blank because even though I managed to get it for 70 cents which was pretty epic, I saw $2 too. So…price grade is n/a.
Pricing Grade: N/A

Final Verdict: Stay the fuck away from Cintron Original. It literally gets worse with each sip.

Overall Rating: 5 of 10

Where to find: Who cares? Stay the fuck away from that shit.

Energy Drinks I Have Tried

My first energy drink was a Full Throttle which I got for free when it was first coming out and they were promoting it. I had 3 in about one hour since nobody with me wanted one and had no idea what it was going to do to me, needless to say I’ve learned since then.

From what I can recall here are all of the energy drinks I’ve had:

  1. Monster
  2. Monster Lo-Carb
  3. Monster Import
  4. Monster MIXXED
  5. Monster Java
  6. AMP
  7. Amp with Green Tea
  8. Amp with Black Tea
  9. Red Bull
  10. Red Bull Shot
  11. Red Bull Sugar Free Shot
  12. Rockstar
  13. Rockstar Sugar Free
  14. Monster Hitman Shot
  15. Syzmo
  16. Cintron
  17. Amp Lightning
  18. Vault (yes I’d count it)
  19. Mountain Dew Voltage
  20. 5 Hour Energy
  21. 5 Hour Energy Extra Strength
  22. Amp Lightning
  23. Rockstar Lemonade
  24. Venom Black Mamba
  25. Venom Mohave Rattler
  26. Monster Nitrous Killer B
  27. Monster Nitrous Super Dry
  28. AMP Overdrive
  29. NOS Grape
  30. NOS Orange
  31. Full Throttle
  32. Cintron: Cranberry Splash

I can’t really remember the rest. AMP Energy Gum was quite an experience.

Cintron: Cranberry Splash Review

Price: 0.70(again, not a typo =D)
Size: 16oz
Active Ingredients- Taurine, Caffeine, Glucuronolactone, Pantothenic Acid, B6, B12
Calories- 220
Energy Blend(total energy ingredients)- n/a

Overall Rating: 8 of 10

Summary: Cintron isn’t exactly a well known energy drink, and unfortunatley it’s weird bottle design makes it look like some sort of bad tasting cranberry flavored seltzer, but it’s delicious. When I first opened the can it was so pressurized from being in my bag all day that the can literally shrank when I opened it. The red dye was so strong it made my mouth red.

Taste: The taste was excellent. It barely even tasted cranberryish and more just flat out berry which was delicious. It might just be my taste bud’s because my friend snuck a sip and it repulsed him beyond belief. I’m going to say he’s just crazy though and give it the thumbs up.

Taste Grade: 9

Power: Cintron’s kick wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was still enough to power me through spanish class. Ahhh godforsaken spanish class…thanks Cintron, I salute you. I tried to get it down fast so that it would hit me as a big buzz. Total buzz time was an estimated 80 minutes.

Power Grade: 8

Pricing: I’m leaving this blank because even though I managed to get it for 70 cents which was pretty epic, I saw $2 too. So…price grade is n/a.
Pricing Grade: N/A

Final Verdict: Although it’s availability is pretty shabby at best, Cintron is great. It didn’t fill me up even though it had that sorta fizzy, oh-god-this-is-gonna-bloat-me feel to it.

Overall Rating: 8 of 10

Where to find: I honestly don’t know, I’ve seen it once in my life.

What is Taurine?

A study into that substance that there seems to be a ton of in all drinks.

On average you would consume about 200mg of Taurine with no energy drinks in your diet at all. Here’s just a head’s up, although I report Taurine stats and almost every energy drink boasts their taurine quantity…taurine hasn’t been exactly 100% proven to be a source of energy.

Mainly it was determined that taurine was by the body for skeletal muscle functions. A few studies done by some smart Europeans found no adverse affects in taking in high amounts of taurine. About 3,000mg would just be secreted by the kidneys though according to the research I did, but that was just checking around.

Taurine also has neurological effects, although it’s difficult to determine the long-term effects of it’s use, right now we can assume it’s reasonably safe. Taurine helps mental alertness to a certain degree.

Many bodybuilders use taurine coupled with creatine for muscles. A few studies conducted in London suggested that high intakes of Taurine can actually counteract the effects of heavy drinking due to certain effects on the liver. Yes, go ahead and have that Redbull and Vodka, the Red Bull will take care of the effects.

Rather than being a stimulant like caffeine, taurine is an amino acid.

So here’s the quick breakdown:

  • Amino acid
  • Safe for large intake
  • More than about 3,000mg will be secreted by the kidneys
  • Has neurological benefits
  • Helps skeletal muscle functioning
  • Has not been proven to provide direct energy to the body
  • Average intake of 200mg

Summary: 5 Hour Energy was at one point quickly taking the energy shot business by storm. It’s blatantly un-catchy commercials somehow managed to spark interest within consumers, to the point where millions of these things were being consumed weekly? So how did it fare with me? For all of the hype and how big this company has gotten, poorly.

Taste: If you’ve ever had a 5 hour energy of any kind before in your life, you need not even read this. Terrible to say the least. I doubt anyone, even the dude who invented 5 Hour Energy himself could bear this taste as an actually decent drink, thank god it’s a two second drink. I literally started coughing this time from drinking it.

Taste Grade: 1

Power: The power of 5 hour energy is decent for non-energy drink enthusiasts. It definitely won’t get anyone buzzing, but that’s not really the purpose so you can’t blame them for that. I don’t feel any kick from 5 hour’s. This was even extra strength. I was a little more alert for an hour, maybe an hour and a half if I’m being generous. It’s not that great, but I have definite tolerance built up to these drinks for the most part, so if it lacks caffeine, then it won’t even affect me for the most part. I’ll be generous because it might get people without tolerance going.

Power Grade: 5

Pricing: The pricing is around the average for energy shots. Although energy shot prices are overall ridiculous for the most part, it’s just the market I guess. We’ll give it a nice 7, at this point they need all the help they can get, this is turning out to be a harsh review.
Pricing Grade: 7

Final Verdict: If you don’t usually reach for an energy drink in your day for a pickup, they 5 hour energy could be just the right thing for you. If your local convenience store guy knows your name and you’re as much of a regular there as Norm was on Cheers (yeah, I went there) then this probablyyyyyy isn’t for you.

Overall Rating: 5 of 10

Where to find: Most places energy drinks are sold, at the counter.
